EIGE has published its latest data on women and men in decision-making, covering the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, as well as the seven countries that receive support from the EU’s Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Turkey (IPA beneficiaries).
The pandemic has had differential impacts on women. Raised consciousness about them must be applied to advance gender equality in recovery measures.
The pandemic has added to the domestic care burden women face while putting predominantly female care workers under huge pressure.
Men and women must publicly account for who they are. Often, men’s and women’s actions in everyday life are dictated by society’s expectations.
Stakeholders have urged the EU to continue with efforts on achieving gender equality in the workplace and pay special attention to women, who have been hit particularly hard by the pandemic and have seen the existing gender inequalities exacerbated by the ongoing crisis.
